If you are an experienced rock climber and want a different type of Caribbean experience, hook up with the Club Active Aruba. Its members have cleaned and set up a climbing area at Grapefield, on the eastern point of the island, near Seroe Colorado. This section of the island was once covered in seagrape trees, but they have been destroyed by refinery waste products that were dumped here in the past. Three climbing enthusiasts visiting from the Netherlands and members of the local climbing club have cleared away much of petroleum waste. The Aruban government has plans to return the area to its original state and protect it as an ecological preserve.
